Gotham, the prequel Batman show, will come to a close in 2019 with 12 episodes that will lead to the introduction of The Caped Crusader himself. Today, Fox has released a new extended trailer for those final episodes online, which promise a battle that seems to be inspired by 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises.
The slick-looking preview hints at many pieces falling into place from Batman mythology, with looks of what appears to be Joker’s actual birth at Ace Chemicals, Bane’s rise and a reinvention of Leslie Tompkins’ reinvention as a healer… a character that the series truly misinterpreted throughout it’s run.
It still appears there are some changes the last season will explore as well. From what we see here, Catwoman’s true origin gets an upgrade, which could only be expected as this has always been a different version of the character from the start.
The fifth and final season of Gotham will premiere on FOX Thursday, January 3, 2019.
The final batch of episodes will feature the return of a number of villains from past Gotham seasons, including the Joker (Cameron Monaghan), Riddler (Cory Michael Smith), Catwoman (Camren Bicondova), Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), Barbara Kean (Erin Richards), Tabitha Galavan (Jessica Lucas), Solomon Grundy (Drew Powell), Mad Hatter (Benedict Samuel), Poison Ivy (Peyton List), Victor Zsasz (Anthony Carrigan), Hugo Strange (B.D. Wong) and The Scarecrow (Charlie Tahan).
Gotham stars Ben McKenzie as James Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Robin Lord Taylor as Penguin, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, and Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth.
