The role of Superboy has now been cast in DC Universe’s Titans. Joshua Orpin will portray the role of Conner Kent in Season 2 of the excellent TV series.
An official description of the fan-favorite character says that Connor is “the angsty teenager of steel searching for purpose and the truth about his past. While looking for answers, he crashes into the world of the Titans, where he finds an unlikely home and surrogate family as well as revelations that carry more complications than he ever bargained for.”
Superboy made his debut in the season finale of Titan‘s first season, which was titled “Dick Grayson.” Conner escapes from Project Cadmus there and rescues a dog with glowing red eyes, likely to be revealed as a version of Krypto the Superdog, the classic character that debuted in the Silver Age Superman comic books. In this brief, post-credits sequence, Connor’s face is never shown, because the role hadn’t been cast yet, but the addition of Orpin as the young hero changes that today.
We previously posted this sequence a few months back and you can view it again below:
When DC made the official announcement today, they provided a great breakdown of the character here:
“Conner Kent was introduced in 1993 in the aftermath of THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN. One of four newly risen “Supermen,” Conner ultimately proved to be heroic, despite possessing human DNA from Lex Luthor as well as his Kryptonian DNA from Kal-El. He’d go on to fight alongside the Man of Steel as Superboy after his return and was one of the founding members of Young Justice, a team that has recently returned to the DC Universe along with Conner.”
This version of Superboy was created by Karl Kesel and Tom Grummett and made his debut in The Adventures of Superman #500. Conner is a lead character in the Young Justice animated series and appeared as a recurring character in Smallville Season 10 (both versions pictured below).
Titans follows young heroes from across the DC Universe as they come of age and find belonging in a gritty take on the classic Teen Titans franchise. Dick Grayson and Rachel Roth, a special young girl possessed by a strange darkness, get embroiled in a conspiracy that could bring Hell on Earth. Joining them along the way are the hot-headed Starfire and loveable Beast Boy. Together they become a surrogate family and team of heroes.
The entire first season of Titans is available now DC Universe streaming service and stars Brenton Thwaites as Robin, Anna Diop as Starfire, Teagan Croft as Raven, Ryan Potter as Beast Boy, Alan Ritchson as Hawk, Minka Kelly as Dove, and Lindsey Gort as Amy Rohrbach.
