Venom, despite not sitting well with critics, seems to be receiving a totally different, warm reception from fans around the world. Directed by Ruben Fleischer, the superhero creature feature has become a solid blockbuster and scored a second straight week atop the box office domestically, with an excellent $35.7 million second weekend. Thus far, with only twelve days under its belt, the film has grossed an impressive $142 million in North America alone.
The film looks even better when you factor in the grosses from International territories. The Tom Hardy-starring film amassed another $65.7 million this past weekend, which now brings its worldwide total to an incredible $378.1 million total ($142.8M domestic total; $235.3M foreign total). That number makes it the 16th-highest grossing movie of the year right now. BoxOfficeMojo, always a great site to check for Box Office breakdowns, compares Venom’s performance to that of Hugh Jackman’s Logan ($619 million by the end of its run).
With a release in China, the world’s second biggest movie market outside of the U.S., now scheduled for early November, it’s all but certain that the film will end it’s worldwide run in the $500-$600 million range.
