Many of us were stunned at the seemingly endless bizarre fan backlash that swelled around Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the 8th and penultimate chapter in the series’ Skywalker Saga. In these trying times, a lot of the negativity seemed to target Rian Johnson’s choice of focusing largely on strong female leads as well as his decision to create some Jedi mythology progression.
But perhaps being divisive amid Star Wars fans worked to the benefit of the film on Blu-Ray. Currently, The Last Jedi is the best-selling Blu-ray of 2018 with a massive 3.02 million units sold, just ahead of Black Panther’s 3.62 million units sold. That latter film was released to Blu-Ray in May, while the former was put on the market in March, so there is every chance Black Panther will end up coming out on top in the end.
In Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Luke Skywalker’s peaceful and solitary existence gets upended when he encounters Rey, a young woman who shows strong signs of the Force. Her desire to learn the ways of the Jedi forces Luke to make a decision that changes their lives forever. Meanwhile, Kylo Ren and General Hux lead the First Order in an all-out assault against Leia and the Resistance for supremacy of the galaxy.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is available now on Digital, Movies Anywhere, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and On-Demand. The film is also currently streaming on Netflix.
